Program Overview:
Do you love music, sports, history, and nature?  Then Liverpool is where you will want to spend next May! This senior seminar launches during spring semester when we study the many ways we connect with one another and create community – face to face and online.  We meet once a month during spring to review the history of social media, consider the possibilities and limitations of virtual community, reflect on the role of neighborhoods in creating community, and consider our place in “the public sphere”. In May, we will travel to and throughout the northern U.K. to learn about different types of communities there: religious, refugee, sports, the arts, and more.  Liverpool Hope University will be our home base, as we attend lectures by U.K. professors, meet international students, and blog about our discoveries regarding community.  Weekend trips to the Lake District and Wales are included.  Readings, discussion, online journaling and a world-and-life-view paper will provide a framework for reflecting on where you live (geographically and virtually) and what you live for.
