Professional Experience
Since graduating from Hope College, Dan’s scholastic and professional pursuits have taken him all over the world. After two years working as an attorney in the United States and almost five years living abroad in Central and Eastern Europe with his wife, Emily, Mr. Kampsen describes himself as a citizen of the world. While overseas, Dan completed a Fulbright Research Fellowship in Poland, worked as an advising assistant at the Slovak Fulbright Commission, coordinated the Competitive College Club for American Councils for International Education in Vilnius, Lithuania, and served as a legal proofreader in Prague, Czech Republic. Along with this, Mr. Kampsen has studied abroad in Japan, Mexico, the Czech Republic, Russia, and Germany. Immediately prior to his position at Hope College, Dan served as a scholarship advisor at the Ohio University Office for Multicultural Student Access and Retention in Athens, Ohio.

Outside the College
Dan is an active member of both the national and Michigan chapters of the Fulbright Alumni Association. He especially enjoys working with new grantees to explore how they can get the most out of their Fulbright experience.

Dan is also an avid reader of Central and Eastern European fiction, and enjoys collecting Eastern European antiques in his spare time. On a standard weeknight, you’ll likely find him at home with his wife and two cats, watching one of his favorite Detroit sports teams.
