Program Overview

Spend a semester living and learning in Gaborone, Botswana, one of Africa's fastest-growing cities. Botswana is known as one of the safest and longest multi-party democracies in Africa, renowned as an exclusive safari destination and as a leader in conservation. The country is home to the "Big Five" animals (lions, leopards, elephants, black rhinos, and buffalo), making its natural landscape a fascinating backdrop for your study abroad adventure.

Designed for students from all academic backgrounds, this exciting study abroad program is the right fit for students who want to immerse themselves in Botswana’s stunning landscapes while learning about African culture and participating actively in Gaborone’s local community. When class is in session, you’ll flexibly build your workload according to your preferences while selecting courses across a wide range of topics in health, politics, science, media, history, psychology, literature, communication, economics, and more.

Outside the classroom, your coursework will be complemented with engaging activities organized by CIEE to enhance classroom learning and provide you with intercultural understanding. Bonus: Diversify your study abroad adventure with an optional internship to boost your resume with real-world, hands-on work experience or spend your free time volunteering in local groups and organizations to help make a meaningful impact on the people of Gaborone.
